History of the mfers NFT collection

Sartoshi, artist and creator of the mfers NFT collection, remains anonymous to this day. The pseudonym is obviously similar to Bitcoin creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, who remains anonymous as well.

The creator entered the NFT space back in April 2021 with a CryptoPunk purchase, and a few more Punks after that. During that time, Sartoshi regularly shared memes, jokes, and absurdities in the NFT space. For instance, the unbelievably poor art in some of the NFT ‘artwork’.

Sartoshi started to draw meme art, especially some with his iconic stick figure. One particular piece that gained traction shows a kid with headphones and a cigarette, slouching in a chair with his arms extended to the keyboard. The drawing basically portrays the creator as a mfer, living his own life.

And then, the ‘AHA’ moment struck. The creator thought: ”what if we all have that mfer inside of us? What if in a way, we are all degens in front of a computer navigating a new world? As investors, artists, gamers, collectors, whatever…”

Sartoshi immediately went to work, creating the 10k PFP NFT collection that tons of people can relate to, and the rest is history.

mfers NFT Floor Price - How Much Do They Cost?

In the beginning, each mfers NFT held a mint price of 0.069 ETH. Over the course of the 2021/2022 NFT bull run, they saw the floor price exceed 6 ETH with a total trading volume of 40k ETH. At the time of writing, the floor price sits at a steady 1.9 ETH. The current mfers floor price is:

A shocking turn of events

On 9 June 2022, Sartoshi announced his departure from the mfers community, NFT space, and Twitter altogether. The announcement took NFT Twitter by surprise, leaving the fans with mixed feelings. Some in the community are calling it a rugpull. On the other hand, some think it is the creator’s plan all along to make mfers truly self-sustaining, similar to Satoshi’s Bitcoin.

So what now?

As his swansong, the artist dropped a long goodbye note and a final open edition NFT: end of sartoshi. According to Sartoshi, this is just the beginning of the mfers’ new era. Basically, the mfers smart contract will be transferred to the unofficial mfers multi-sig wallet. This wallet will now receive 50% of creator royalties, where the community can decide on how to use the funds in the future. 25% will go to the Sartoshi creator-royalty wallet, 15% to the dev team, while the remaining 10% will go to other mfers dev/consulting teams.
