The future of digital fashion is happening and it is happening soon! Decentraland is hosting their second annual Metaverse Fashion Week on 28-31 March 2023, and the biggest of brands are going to be there. Here’s a complete guide to one of the most highly anticipated metaverse events: MVFW23.

What Is Decentraland’s Metaverse Fashion Week (MVFW23)?

This March, Decentraland and digital luxury and culture marketplace UNXD are joining forces to power this event, with the help of Spatial and Over metaverses as well. Participants will witness jaw-dropping runway shows, vibrant after-parties, immersive experiences, shopping, and much more over these 3 days.

MVFW23 will feature the power of blockchain interoperability and bridging. While the highlight of the event is at Decentraland’s Luxury District, the events will be spread across different metaverses. This effectively showcases the potential of fashion to bridge realities and worlds.

A fashion event in the metaverse may seem overwhelming to some, but Decentraland and the organising team is minimising the knowledge gap as much as possible. Participants do not need to be well-versed in the world of crypto and NFTs to have a good time. For instance, the event works seamlessly on mobile, while shoppers can use their credit cards to checkout like any other e-commerce platform.

Who’s Coming?

Given that the theme this year is ‘Future Heritage’, we will see a beautiful blend of traditional fashion designers and the next generation of creators. This event will see not only legacy luxury fashion brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Dolce & Gabbana, but also digital-native fashion brands the likes of DRESSX and Phygicode. Together, they will forge the future of the global fashion industry, one wearable collection at a time.

Here’s a sneak peak of what’s going down during the event. DKNY has created a dedicated venue which includes a pizzeria, an art gallery, and a rooftop lounge. Adidas is all set with their first ever digital-only collection, the ‘adidas virtual gear’ collection. Whereas Diesel and HAPE will be throwing a party that promises a variety of wearable NFT airdrops.

What Are Opportunities For Creators?

If you are a creator, here’s your chance to put on a show. You can get your items featured in the dedicated tab in the Marketplace by adding #MVFW23 to your runway-ready items in the Builder before the event begins.

Besides that, fashionistas will also be looking for the best Emotes to use on the catwalk. The Decentraland Foundation is organising an Emote contest where winners will get their emotes featured in the community fashion show on top of a generous $MANA reward. This contest is open for everyone and will run until Monday, March 20, 2023 7AM UTC.

Metaverse Fashion Week 2022

The first ever Metaverse Fashion Week managed to attract many large brands such as Estée Lauder and Etro and they were generally satisfied with the outcome of the event. There were some amazing shows on display throughout the weekend, including catwalks, dance-offs, DJs, and creators pushing the boundaries of fashion designs.

However, the online community did not seem to be too happy with their experiences. Some said that graphics were rudimentary and the experience was often compromised by glitches and delays. Last year, the event saw more than 100k unique attendees, an overwhelming response compared to 40k in the October music festival. Nevertheless, many stakeholders are confident that the organisers are all set to change the narratives this year.

Closing Remarks

While the current lineup is already pretty impressive, the organisers will continue to update more event participants as soon as they get confirmation from the brands. So remember to pay attention to the official websites below for the latest updates:
